Joel Beckwith

Joel Beckwith is an experienced jury trial lawyer in the Southern Illinois and St. Louis areas. He also maintains litigation experience in the federal courts including the Southern District of Illinois, Central District of Illinois, and the Eastern District of Missouri.

Jonathan Gottschalk

After joining Rynearson, Suess, Schnurbusch & Champion, LLC in 2021 as a law clerk, Mr. Gottschalk remained with the firm after passing the July 2023 Missouri bar examination. He received his Juris Doctorate from Saint Louis University School of Law in May 2023. While in law school, he was an active member of the SLU Law trial advocacy team, competing in both regional and national competitions.

Dean Stark

Dean Stark has been an attorney in the firm’s litigation section since 2006. Prior to joining RSS&C, Mr. Stark was an attorney in the commercial litigation department of a large Saint Louis firm. Mr. Stark has tried over 30 cases to jury verdict in both state and federal court, and appeared before both state and federal appellate courts. His litigation experience includes representation of clients both as Plaintiff and Defendant in a wide variety of commercial cases including breach of contract, real estate, commercial tort claims, environmental issues, and claims arising under the Copyright Act and Federal Lanham Act. He also has trial experience in the defense of premises liability claims on behalf of retailers and personal injury from automobile accident claims.

Stephen Barber

Over the past twenty years, Mr. Barber has worked for several firms in various areas of the law, including insurance defense, personal injury litigation, collections, workers compensation and appellate practice. Mr. Barber has tried and argued cases at the trial level in both state and federal court and has briefed and argued appeals in the Eastern, Western and Southern Districts of the Missouri Court of Appeals as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Mr. Barber is licensed in the states of Missouri, Illinois and Connecticut.

Michelle White

Michelle White is a 2002 Graduate of Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts. Her practice concentrates in the areas of insurance defense, personal injury, estate planning, family law, and multi-family housing governmental affairs. Michelle has a strong civil litigation background handling complex commercial matters and domestic matters in both State and Federal Court.

Noel Smith

Noel Smith is an attorney with over 20 years of courtroom experience in Illinois and Missouri. His practice primarily focuses on toxic tort defense and general civil defense litigation. Noel’s experience includes significant court appearances, including jury trial experience, in St. Louis, the St. Louis Metro area in the Illinois counties of Madison and St. Clair, and various other counties in Southern Illinois.

David Schott

David Schott is a Martindale-Hubbell AV rated attorney with over 10 years of courtroom and alternative dispute resolution experience. Mr. Schott maintains an active litigation practice in state and federal courts in Illinois and Missouri. He has jury trial experience and has tried a wide variety of civil cases to verdict in both state and federal courts. He has practiced before the Illinois Appellate Courts, as well as before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Katherine Smith

Katherine Smith focuses her practice in the area of Insurance Defense in both Missouri and Illinois. From personal auto lines to common carriers, homeowners to commercial, construction to products liability, she has extensive experience in defending and litigating both first and third party insurance matters—with a special focus on claims involving issues of bad faith refusal and vexatious refusal.

Mimi Doherty

Mimi E. Doherty is a partner in the firm and runs the firm’s Kansas City office. She spent the first thirty- seven years of her practice at Deacy & Deacy LLP in Kansas City before joining Rynearson, Suess, Schnurbusch & Champion LLC in January 2023. She has spent her career defending individuals and private and governmental entities in all types of civil litigation throughout Missouri and Kansas. She also has extensive experience representing insurance companies in first party litigation and excess/bad faith claims and in providing coverage opinions to insurance clients.

Brian McChesney

Brian is a partner in the St. Louis office of Rynearson, Suess, Schnurbusch & Champion, an experienced trial attorney with 30+ years of experience handling complex personal injury and wrongful death litigation, including automobile and commercial trucking accidents, fire and explosion cause and origin cases, construction and industrial accidents, defective and dangerous products, premises liability cases, and amusement park ride accidents.
